From Eurovision to The Cuban Boys, the members of Spray have left their mark on British pop culture over the years, both individually and collectively. The duo doesn’t rest on its laurels however, which inspired their decision to revisit The Big Idea – one of the standout tracks from their Ambiguous Poems About Death album.

Ambiguous Poems About Death was the second album the duo released via AnalogueTrash, its twelve tracks seeing Ricardo and Jenny cast their sharp and insightful eyes over modern life and concluding that some, but not all of it, is a bit rubbish at times.

The remixes of The Big Idea come from the duo’s constant quest to revisit their back catalogue at gigs, but also in the studio. Says Ricardo:

“We’re happy with every song we release, but we also like to experiment with them, see if they work in different styles and tempos. Our Songs Already Sung album was in part inspired by that drive to create – and recreate - music that’s previously been released.

“These new remixes are a bit of fun, really. One is a more up-tempo version of The Big Idea, while the Hyperextended Remix is an exercise in seeing how far we can change a song while keeping its original form. It’s also very long - perfect for those moments when you want to listen to an hour-long remix of the same song.”

Continues Ricardo: “The Hyperextended Remix is a tribute of sorts to those 80s 12” remixes that were very popular with DJs. Where those extended versions gave disc spinners the opportunity for a cheeky cigarette or toilet break, out of the goodness of our hearts we decided to allow them enough time for a relaxing meal, a short nap, or an episode of Ancient Aliens.

"I would also like to point out that this is in no way a novelty, but is serious art. Honestly. A whole hour of art, just ripe for exploitation by the sped up/slowed down folk so popular with Spotify for copyright reasons. Did I mention that it’s around 60 minutes long?”

Ric and Jen were members of 21st century pop terrorists The Cuban Boys, who topped John Peel's Festive 50 and the UK singles charts.

Their offshoot project Spray predicted the electropop boom, unfortunately much too early for them to cash in. They released two albums in 2002 and 2006.
