I Am Gothic became a surprise club and college radio hit over the winter of 2002/2003, so Ninthwave bigwigs scoured the globe for suitable remixes to push the song further into the mainstream.

However, with the antithetical behaviour that has made them so beloved Spray themselves only approved the release of the most oddball, imaginative and peculiar mixes. And insisted on releasing ten of them.

Of course, nowadays having ten remixes of your song is de rigueur, but back then it caused some consternation.

Ultimately, I Am Gothic never advanced into the public's consciousness.

Ric and Jen were members of 21st century pop terrorists The Cuban Boys, who topped John Peel's Festive 50 and the UK singles charts.

Their offshoot project Spray predicted the electropop boom, unfortunately much too early for them to cash in. They released two albums in 2002 and 2006.
